soft cover. There is no writing in the book and no torn or missing
pages, the binding is tight, the text pages are slightly age-toned, the
cover has wear and cracks from opening. The
book is a collection of articles written in the A.A. Grapevine as a
series “The Twelve Steps and the Older AA” running from
October 1954 through June 1956, by the author J.E. (Jerome Ellison).
They were updated and republished in the A.A. Grapevine as “The
Twelve Steps Revisited,” from March 1961 through October 1963.
Ellison was a writer and editor prior to his introduction to Alcoholics
Anonymous. According to his writings, he sobered up in 1947/8. He served
as editor of the A.A. Grapevine and was a professor at
Ellsion also wrote the following magazine articles about alcoholism and addiction:
After having served as a paid consultant evaluating A.A.s publication activities, Ellison was very critical of leadership in Alcoholics Anonymous for its lack of planning. Ellison expressed these concerns in his articles in The Nation. Ellison felt that gossip and racism threatened AAs unity. Ellison pointed directly at A.A.s Board of Trustees as the culprit for allowing this to persist.
Twelve Steps and the Older Member was printed locally in St. Lois Missouri, and copyrighted 1964 by Older Member Press. In the early 1960's he re-visited the 12 steps in another set of articles and this book is a presentation of both sets of AA Grapevine Articles.

Jerome Ellison, Author And Ex-Collier's Editor
Published: June 10, 1981 Jerome Ellison, author and former managing editor of Collier's, died yesterday in the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was 73 years old. For a number of years, he had lived in Guilford, Conn. Mr. Ellison was a founder of Associated Magazine Contributors, a corporation begun in 1946 as an owner-contributor publication. Among the co-owners were Pearl Buck, Roger Butterfield, John Steinbeck and John Dos Passos. The pocket-sized magazine appeared on newsstands as '47 Magazine and lasted a few years. A longtime magazine contributor and editor, Mr. Ellison had worked on Life, Liberty and The Reader's Digest, as well as Collier's. During World War II, he was editorial director of the Bureau of Overseas Publications of the Office of War Information. Mr. Ellison's books included ''The Prisoner Ate a Hearty Breakfast,'' ''John Brown's Soul,'' ''The Dam'' and ''Report to the Creator.'' Surviving are two daughters, Judith Ogden of Lincoln, Mass., and Julie Ellison of Ann Arbor, Mich., and a grandson.
