Ecape from Alcohol
by Donald W. Hewitt, M.D.

Pacific Press, 1953. Soft cover
book is in very good condition with no writing and no torn or missing
pages. Cover has some minor wear.
A culmination of 15 years in the
treatment of alcoholics in the skid row area of Los Angeles, this
physician recalls the case studies of people treated, from skid row bums
to others with college degrees. The author's main hope with this book
was that it would help others. The author does support turning to God as
the solution in achieving peace, sobriety, serenity and happiness.
I originally read this book for
two reasons, one was the age being 1953, and the other because the
author, a physician, recommended spirituality as a solution to an
alcohol problem. |

Quoting from Foreword ...
The author first became interested in the problem of alcoholism ... while
serving an internship and residency in psychiatry. He subsequently entered
private practice in Honolulu ... his office very close to Waikiki Beach
...
Soon he found himself conducting a charity alcoholic rehabilitation
clinic ... and the author discovered that alcoholism knew no class lines
... that not all were from 'the lower class society' ... many had college
degrees, having known luxury & riches, and even political and economic
power ..
