On the Tail of a Comet: The Life of
Frank Buchman Garth Lean is British, author of books about Wesley and Wilberforce and a long-time associate of Frank Buchman. This book, issued originally in 1985 in Great Britain by Constable as "Frank Buchman: A Life," is a full and detailed biography, covering Buchman's life and work on all the continents, where he influenced an incredible number of lives. The book is fully documented with more than one thousand source references. Buchman was American, an ordained Lutheran minister, and a highly controversial religious leader. He was the founder of the Oxford Group, later known also as Moral Re-armament (MRA). Lean solves the problem of avoiding subjectivity by including everything, including verbatim quotations from a good many hostile critics. He does not attempt to refute them, but gives positive evidence from hundreds of distinguished leaders in public life, the church, business, and industry, equally fully documented. A blurb on the inside front jacket quotes James I. McCord in accurately assessing Buchman's significance: "Frank Buchman was one of the most charismatic and influential leaders in the Christian world in the twentieth century."
