The Shadow of the Bottle, this MARVELOUS book is so full of wonderful quotes and pictures pertaining to the Temperance movement, and Prohibition. Published in 1915, the inner page bears a picture that reads “Fight the Good Fight”, and a quote:

“Lift the shout until it trembles the earth and crumbles the last rum battlements. A saloonless nation by 1920, the three hundredth year from the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth.”

It states that it was published in the Interest of Nation-wide Prohibition of the Liquor Traffic. Another wonderful picture depicting a man and a horse bending by a river bank to drink and fill his canteen, reads “God gave them water to drink” An absolutely fantastic piece of America’s history, and exceptionally ell preserved for its age. This is an 85 year old book.  Packed with wonderful stories, TONS of propaganda, and a wide selection of political cartoons pertaining to the era, this is a TREASURE of a temperance book.
