"The Crystal Fount," a book of essays on temperance edited by T.S. Arthur, the author of the temperance classic, "Ten Nights in a Bar Room and What I Saw There." This 264 page book is bound in gilt-tooled leather and is in good condition with no defects other than normal wear and foxing. There are ten steel engravings on temperance subjects by C. McRae ( See scans. please give time to download.). The book was published in 1854 by Lamport, Blakeman & Law, in New York. The title page is printed in color. It might be, in part, hand colored. The essays are written by Anna Wilmot, Elizabeth Roberts, T. S. Arthur, Mrs. Mary Arthur, E.A. Atlee, M.D., Mrs. S. A. Wentz, Mrs. Elizabeth Barker, Rev. Daniel Sharp, Wm. H. Carpenter, Kate Sutherland, John Duffey, James Very, Dr. R. M. Bird, George D. Prentice, Clara Lee, Lieut. G. W. Patten, Gardiner Phillips, F. Purcell, Lydia Jane Pierson, Miss Emma Hemple, Mary Meigs, Mrs. M. E. Hewitt, Rev. Ledyard Culyer, Miss Mary Denver, and Mrs. Ernestine Smith. This is a nicely bound book. It  is of  interest to those interested in temperance and the history of alcoholism in society.
